SCRIPTURE: “EXCEPTION” OR “DISTINCTION”

Christians and the unsaved get into theological trouble when they confuse “all” with exception, “all” without exception, and “all” without distinction, when reading and applying the scriptures. The same goes for the words “every” and “whole” in the Bible.  Please allow me to explain and give a few examples.

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.  Romans 1:8

Seems we have a problem with the above scripture when we look at it through the eyes of an unsaved, unbelieving Geography teacher in a public school.  To the unsaved or the Bible rejecting Christian it is obvious that the AV1611 has errors in it.  After all  history and geography plainly show us that the Eskimo and the head hunters in the remote areas of the rain forests have not heard  the gospel when Paul penned this epistle.  What I have just written in this paragraph is a perfect example of what a lack of common sense and an evil heart of unbelief can do to your theology.

But when you look at the same scripture with a believing heart and common sense it becomes abundantly clear what the Holy Ghost is telling us.  Words such as “whole, all, every, etc” will trip you up if you approach the scriptures with a deceitful unbelieving heart.  Not one person that Paul wrote to in that day would consider the Eskimos or the headhunters as he read because he did  not know that there were Eskimos or headhunters.  Likewise, looking back, not one person reading Romans 1:8 can believe the translators or the Holy Ghost made a mistake when this scripture was originally penned or when it was translated in 1611.  Here we are learning the supposed problem with the scriptures is within us.

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

The above verse encompasses the most important event that ever happened upon this earth and is “without exception”.  ALMOST.  Consider when a baby dies, he or she does not go to hell 2 Samuel 12:23.  This is an “exception” within the “without exception” and is backed up with scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments in the AV1611.  And as far as those who know right from wrong it is without exception as noted in Romans 2: 11-16.

Remember a scripture taken “out of context” is a “pretext” and a major cause of this is mistaking “with exception” for “without exception.

Let me leave you with some food for thought.  If I would state that I have preached all over the country, what does that mean?  Does it mean that I have preached in every state, every city, every town, every house in the United States?  Of course  not!, and you know instinctively it doesn’t.  It would simply mean that I preached from North to South and East to West as much as I could, to as many as I could, and for a considerable amount of time.  If you would grant me a saved sinner that kind of liberty, why can you not grant the AV1611 translators and the Holy Ghost the same kindness?

That without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers. Romans 1:9

The above verse from Romans is one that the willing apostate can stumble over  while making a case for another newer easier to read perverted bible.  Be honest as you consider this verse.  Did Paul mean “without ceasing” to be “with exception or distinction” or “without exception”?  Only a dishonest rebel against heaven and all that is holy would consider this verse to mean “without exception” and that Paul lied or spent every waking moment praying and never taking time to eat, read, preach, travel, minister or even sleep.  Paul simply meant that he mentioned the Romans regularly and consistently in his prayer life.
