Dwane Karr just handed me a report on his experience this past Saturday night at a so-called christian rock concert held at and by the First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg, WV. Duane told me that he and the two street preachers with him were almost denied access to this satanic event that Youth Director Amy Rogers arranged. I personally was not there, so lets read what Duane reported.

Well we almost didn’t get in. They had us pegged from the get go. I told the lady in charge that we just wanted to come in and see what it was like and she softened up. Attendance was small. We sat through four groups. I was not able to understand the lyrics of the songs. The attire of the participants was typical punk rock garb.

I went to purchase waters for the three of us and had a conversation with the lady running the show who we had encountered before entering the building ( the one who wasn’t going to let us in). I inquired about the cause (mission trip to Missouri) of the event. She said they go on a mission trip every year and the kids work hard to pay the cost each year. I did not get to find out exactly what they do on these mission trips, but judging from the comments of a very unfriendly mother who approached us as we were leaving, good works like feeding the hungry appear to be the focus of the mission trips.
The unfriendly mother’s point was a typical one of allowing the kids to “express themselves their way” without correcting or condemning them for their behavior, thus being able to stay in their lives and steer them to remain “God centered”. Whatever that means. Her daughter sang in the second band that played. Mom was very proud of her using her “gift” for God. A local pastor who Larry knew came over and talked with us between bands. His son played in one of the bands. This pastor explained how many of the bands started out “Christian” using “God and “Jesus” in their songs, then later go more mainstream and change “God” and “Jesus” to more generic names like “Him” and “The One”. After he left, Larry said, “He knows its wrong”. Before he left the pastor said one band we heard had a really good message, but he wasn’t able to understand enough of their words to really know what the song said??????? The pastor also said that when the message was good it had a greater effect when the band drove it home powerfully.
In the end, I don’t have a feeling of strong rebuke in me. Truly, I feel sad in my soul. I believe the woman running things loves the kids and sees this approach as the ONLY WAY she can stay in her daughters and the rest of the kids lives…to positively influence them and “Keep Them God Centered”. These people are scared they will push away the kids by trying to enforce Biblical standards on them. Here is the place it all goes off course. The Book (AV1611 Holy Bible) is abandoned while allowing the kids to live sinful lives as long as you can keep them in church. Bottom line: These are typical ( in today’s society) rebellious kids who are allowed to live their lives as they see fit as long as they will conform to a set of rules acceptable to Catholics and Universalists everywhere (Basically, don’t have filthy lyrics in the songs and wear enough clothes to cover your private parts).
In the end there is no mention of salvation or a need for a new birth involved in this rock ministry. First Presbyterian at Parkersburg, WV and this program is purely a “works” based religion. Like the world’s heroes, (Mother Teresa, Gandhi, etc) they are concerned about supplying bread for the hungry, rather than the BREAD OF LIFE. The lady who confronted us in the parking lot before we left made their position on the Bible and the gospel of Jesus Christ very clear when she said, “Starving people don’t give a DAMN about PREACHING, they just want something to eat!” That sums up the “Jamming for Jesus” crowd in a nutshell. Their reality is the physical realm. Sadly, they have no concept of the invisible spiritual realm. What they fail to realize is that God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in SPIRIT and in TRUTH.

My comment was written in response to the defensive and childish way you’ve responded to the comments made by the Christian kids in the bands and others who have dared to challenge your views in the comment section. Just to clarify. And notice that, once again, you pointed out a completely unrelated red herring in your response to my comment, rather than addressing the issues I brought up. Just saying.

At first, I wasn’t even going to comment on this, because it’s obviously useless. “Bro.” Ray has not only failed to use a single logical (or even Scriptural) argument, but he has also responded to criticism in the most childish, evasive way possible. I find it hard to believe that an adult who claims to be a pastor could be so lacking in intellect and character. However, I do think it’s important to show support for the Christian kids who put on this concert, and who are being unfairly (and childishly) slandered. I have read all of your comments, and you have shown a level of intelligence and maturity that should make “Bro.” Ray feel ashamed of himself. He must know, somewhere in his heart, that he is wrong; why else would he be so needlessly insulting and defensive? Enough said. There is no point arguing with someone who cannot (or will not) respond with maturity.

Trust me, I have read through your posts and comments. Most of them consist of personal insults and a lot of sidestepping. For some reason, I don’t think God would be too happy about you picking on a bunch of kids on the internet. The only thing that I can assume from your lack of response is that you just don’t have one, because I know my questions have been left unanswered. It seems that the one who has done the most sinning is you. Do you just pick and choose what scripture you would like to follow and just ignore the rest? It doesn’t really make sense to me. You call Christian rock a sin because the majority of rock goes against scripture. You generalize music, but you do not do the same with the internet? You are very inconsistent and very much a hypocrite for being on the internet in the first place. You should explore your logic a little bit and realize that there a lot of holes in it.
I’m still not sure why an event separate from any church service is such a controversial issue, but I also don’t seem to understand why you do a lot of things that you do.
I attended a great church for 17 years full of really amazing and wonderful people who also did NOT agree with “Christian rock”. Even my own FAMILY, who are very conservative and religious, unlike myself, thinks that Christian rock is wrong. I respected their opinion, though, and I didn’t think any less of them because of it. They did not come on the internet, which is full of things much more evil than Christian rock, and call the local kids heathens for doing something really great. I’ve known most of those kids for years and they have followed God despite temptations and ridicule from many people in school. I was also really disappointed to find out that somehow, my old pastor and most likely my old church is associated with Mr. Larry McCune. I would like to think that since my former pastor is a great man that would never lower himself to any kind of hate, that Mr. Larry McCune and even you are decent people, despite your internet ramblings and recent actions. I do know that when I come back into town that this will be the topic of discussion with my youth pastor and a few of the deacons, which will most definitely be brought to the attention of my former pastor. Being young and active on social networks, I’ve definitely learned the negative consequences of saying contentious things online over the years. It’s never a good thing and no one is untouchable or immune to the ramifications. You should honestly stick to street preaching and knocking on doors since you’re probably not as hateful or as outspoken in real life. The purpose of creating this blog was probably to cause controversy and in NO WAY lead anyone to God, which also makes you a hypocrite.

So, can you please tell me how calling out another Church for “failing” kids makes your ministry any better? Honestly I would have to believe that you must have saved all the sinners you can, because what you are doing with your time currently (bashing people who might not be living up to your interpretation of gods word) certainly does not lean towards anything other than that for me to believe. Please enlighten me. I really want to know. More than that, I would love to know what Jesus really would say about this. Unfortunately any words you could put in his mouth are pure speculation and sadly for you the little bit of attention you garnered from this will be forgotten and so will you. I just think it’s funny that you missed the best acts of all: the bands who aren’t Christian bands, don’t say they are, don’t pretend to be, and could care less what you think. Bands like ooooh, Neilhouse. I’m proud to say my future husband is in that wonderful pop-punk band, with his stretched ears, tight skinny leg jeans, and tattoos. I had no problem with you being there. Hey man, you wanna come to a local show, awesome! More warm bodies in a room listening to the jams. But even the most unseasoned concert goer knows you don’t disrespect bands. There are tons of band I don’t agree with, like for example, I’m not a real big fan of The Devil Wears Prada. It’s just not my cup of tea. I have problems understanding what they are saying, and their last album was one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. But, I wouldn’t go to a The Devil Wears Prada concert, take pictures and videos of fans outside, then the next day get on the internet and blast them. I know how hard each and every band works for each show. For me, this has nothing to do with God, or Jesus, or Buddah, or Satan, or whatever you believe in. It’s about the bands, bro. Better not use a video camera to record it or put it on the Internet because both of these things have been used for ungodly and evil things. So going by your logic and the process of association, it is evil and anyone who uses it worships the devil. However, this isn’t true. It can be used for good purposes despite the evil that is found on it. On the same note, music has been used to spread evil messages, but just because it sounds differently than “normal” types of music doesn’t mean that you can classify it as evil immediately and anyone who thinks this (yourself and your pastors) is ignorant and completely and utterly hopeless. “Christians” such as yourself have been pushing people away from your religion for years and years and you still haven’t figured out your faults. You insult people, show no respect, and are too ignorant to realize your own faults. Remove the plank in your eye before you remove splinters from others’ eyes. One of those songs was about a man’s mother that died and he wrote the song to honor her for everything that she did for him and he hopes that he makes her proud with everything that he has done an it was a heavy song. I honestly haven’t seen you give one valid reason as to why “God hates rock”. It is clear in the Bible that singing and the use of instruments in relation to glorifying God is something he appreciates very much. And just because your decrepit ears cannot understand the words that they speak, which are very much English and in no way “tongues”, does not mean it is demonic. I can honestly say that the majority of the Christians that I have met are great people, and have made me respect their beliefs by proving the quality of their character. Of course, there’s always the few that ruin it for everyone. Do you realize that you are doing the EXACT opposite of what you’re intending? You’re turning people away from God. You’re turning people away from Christianity. You’re making your religion look like a farce. You’re are tainting how people view Christians. If he does exist, then I am positive that he is an unconditionally loving God, but he alone is the one to do the condemning, not you. Of course, you’ll smirk and continue to thump your Bible when you read this, and that is honestly okay. You’re stuck in your ways and refuse to believe that the world is changing. You should be fearing your own judgement, because self-righteousness is wicked as well and I’m sure God will have a lot to say when your day comes.

That is a completely unrelated topic. I didn’t say anything against going into the world and preaching the gospel. In fact, Jesus tells us in Matthew that we are supposed to do just that! What I am trying to say is that while God did ask us to preach His love, He didn’t not ask us to be his judges and tell everyone what they are doing wrong. God IS love, and His gospel is that He came to this earth in the form of Jesus Christ to show us that love and died for us because of His UNCONDITIONAL love for us. We are supposed to be like Him and show that same love to everyone! His first commandment is to love God with all of our hearts, souls, minds and strength, and the second is like unto it: love your neighbor (this is everyone) as yourself. He did not ask us to judge, but to love, and that is what we are trying to do.
Well hello. I am the young lady who set up this entire show. I have been a Christian my entire life. Maybe if you listened and didn’t sit in a corner and complain the whole time you would have heard the whole time people were preaching the bible through music. It is ILLEGAL for you to be putting pictures up without people consent and SLANDERING Against them saying they were drinking and if this continues legal action is a high possibility. We were there to praise God and raise money for a good cause. Many of the things you said we’re lies, which is a piece of blasphemy. Freedom of Speech is not applicable when slander is involved. We were there as Children of God, to show our love through him with beautiful music. You want to use scripture? Here we go. Matthew chapter 7 verse 7 is says, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Keep protesting this concert, do what you want but lying about the events that happened is legally wrong. Plus you all left after the third band. Time to open your eyes. God even said “praise me with song” you have NO right to say I worship the devil. Show me a verse that actually says there is a certain type of music that is unclean or unpleasing to God, please. I seem to be having trouble finding such a verse. Oh and you guys like to compare rock music and the like to speaking in tongues, and I feel as if I should probably tell you that this notion is completely off base. When someone speaks in tongues, they’re speaking in a different language, so it would be pretty much impossible for anyone who doesn’t understand that language to comprehend what’s being said without a translator. That is not the case with metal/rock music. If you actually pay attention, rather then closing your ears because of your own negativity, you can almost always make out the words that are being sung.

Have you actually tried to listen to the songs because Judgeing from what the your group did you clearly didn’t they recorded some of the songs and put them on the Internet without anyone’s permission and all they did was record the more heavy songs. You never gave the softer ones a chance. Judging from what you did is pretty much yellow journalism and also you claim to want to help but it seems you have already damned us to hell. You are judging everything that we did based on a book that is less than 2000 years old yes it teach us about god but what we do is teach it in a more modern version. Sociologists have prooven that music it a very strong way of devoting lessons. There are many types of music in this world, and of course everybody has their own favorite types of music wether it is Gospil of Screamo. the bands we had wasnt just screamo it was hard rock and metal. This was a way to reach out to the people. Not everyone will follow your Exact belief. but will only follow the book. The Bible does NOT say the Screamo is evil, does Not say Metal is evil, it does say to treat others the way you want to be treated. So you telling me that we should not have this concert is telling me that you do not want me to go to St. Louis to feed my knowledge, time, and come closer to God with those in need.

Wow, that is just beautiful! I honestly couldn’t have said it better. It’s so sad, because the reason God sent His son Jesus into the world was because He loved us! Jesus loved us! It’s sad because these people who protest this actually hinder the unsaved from coming to Christ! I saw someone on facebook who said that it was because of people like these protestors that he wasn’t a Christian. I wasn’t at the concert, but I wish every Christian had the strength and heart that you, Morgan and Cody seem to have! You all are in my prayers and God bless you on your Mission Trip. Honestly I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. I to go to this church though I am not very active with the church currently I have been on one of this mission trips that they were raising money for and we don’t just feed the hungry there’s a lot more to the mission trips then what you realize they are life changing. They open your eyes to church. Yes they do read the bible and do devotions but we also go to other cities to help out in the community and realize even if it doesn’t seem like it God is there he always is. On these mission trips we help out with rebuilding/reprinting houses for those in need we clean up the community spend time with kids of the neighborhood we’ve gone and visited at nursing homes and have done much more life changing things for the community. I may not have been at that concert that night but I do know this music is a way of expressing yourself and how you feel. If you don’t like it don’t bash about a church that help a concert like this its for a really good cause and honestly if you’ve ever listened to some other Christian bands you will see they do just about the same thing. So before you go bashing people’s talents and the good cause out church is doing do some research open your eyes listen to some famous Christian bands. This church is an amazing one! The youth group is absolutely awesome and our youth leader Amy does a very good job at what she’s doing. You have to think we our a different generation you need to realize we see things differently we learn things from other perspectives Amy realizes that and makes church relatable to us and teaches us gods ways. I was in one of the bands that played in the concert and I also am I youth member of the church and part of the congregation. I am a CHRISTIAN! I believe in the lord Jesus Christ who strengthens me. In my life of hardships God is the one who got me out of it. He is the one who gave me the ability and the gift to play music and my instruments. The thing is that you keep saying that we are satanic with the music that we play, the problem with that is even if you can’t understand what they are saying doesn’t make it satanic. In the bible, the same bible every denomination reads and goes by no matter what version it is, in Psalm chapter 150 verse 5 it states “Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!” It also says in Psalm chapter 33 verse 3, “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.” That is exactly what I do when I play the drums. I play music for God and he is with me when I play he is in my heart and he is the one that takes over to play for me because I play the music with all my heart for him just like it says in John chapter 4 verse 24 “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” What you do not understand is that we play this music not for people of human nature or for ourselves; we play it for God and for only him no matter what anyone says or who is against the music that we play. We know that God loves us that he sent his only son to die on the cross for us, for everyone and not just one type of person. We say in the Lord’s Prayer FORGIVE US FOR OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US! And With that i forgive you of your uncertainty in the way of your thinking and conception of the Christian faith. To be a Christian it stands for To Be Christ Like. Jesus taught us while he was on this earth Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with your entire mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. The story of the Good Samaritan of when the sheriff asked who is my neighbor. Jesus simply replied who do you think was a neighbor to the fallen man and the sheriff replied the one who had mercy on him. Jesus told him to go and do likewise. Now the Samaritan’s were the people who were hated at this time but he still loved and helped the man who would have looked down upon him. This is being a Christian, Christ Like; we walk the world to help one another as Jesus did for us. We are no perfect soul but that is why the blood was shed for us and why the body was broken for us. Jesus sacrificed his own life to save ours from sin and took and washed it all away. You judge us for how we praise the Lord we call Father, the same Lord you call your Father, but in Matthew chapter 7 verse 7 is says, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” God Loves! He Heals! He Forgives! In 1 Corinthians chapter 13 the Apostle Paul talks about that without love we gain nothing and how love is kind and patient and does not dishonor others. It feels to me you speak of the Lord and how your followers of Christ but if this were true you would have Love and if you had Love you would have God because God is Love. You dishonored us in what we did and how we showed God and his people how we worship the Holy Name. You condemned us of our wrongs when there is only one man who can do that and it is The Father, The Spirit, The Holy Ghost; the only true one and that is God. For I say to you that the Lord is God and God is the Lord whoever shall come to him will earn eternal life. I am with him even when I feel he is not with me I still am with him for he is the one holding me and that is why I see only one set of footprints in the sand. This event was to help my youth group for our deeds that we do for our God. We help people who have nothing, we help God’s children. We spend our time going out and doing the things Jesus did for his father on this earth. We help the hungry, the poor, the sick, the old, the forgotten ones. These mission trips change my life each year and bring me closer to God closer to the faith and the light just like my music does. It took me from my darkest and deepest places in my life and brought me out of it. I say this to you from the very heart that God has given me when he created heaven and earth and all living beings and non-living beings. I hope that you will read this and see it from my eyes from my soul and heart. God sees me right now and says thank you for saying this and thank you for speaking the wisdom and love i have given you in my name. We are not living in anything but the light that God shines down on me and the whole world. We don’t need a new birth or salvation we only need one thing and that is the forsakenness that God has allowed us to have the love he has given us and the redemption of hope and sanctity in our hearts and soul that he lives in. I love you because I love all people and creatures in the world because that is what God has taught me through his son. We will continue with our music and the message that we bring because God allows us and gives us this gift of life so we can praise him for him and allow him to be him. We bring the message in the music because they get more out of it they listen to it and feel it in their hearts when we do, and if you would just listen a little bit closer and open your hearts and your ears you would have heard our message in the lyrics. This i not what it is only baby scars; I need your love like a boy needs his mother’s side. God Bless you and allow him to move through you freely and allow you to feel peace and love in your own clouded heart and life. He never said this would be easy he just promised he would be with me. Thank you for your time and I hope one day the light that I see and the light that you see will meet to become one.

I am NOT trying to condemn you for doing such things, being benevolent is a very great thing. But preaching the Gospel is FIRST priority. Luke 19:10 – I came to seek and to save that which was lost. Not, I came to feed the hungry, heal the poor, etc… He did those things out of compassion. His main purpose is for the LOST! Saving them from the pits of Hell!
We are not to bring people in by changing the church, we’re to go to highway’s and hedges, preaching the Gospel. Compelling them to come and receive Christ! All those who will sup with Him, at His table! Not, throwing the Master out, making our own table that will draw people in by saying, Oh we got this band playing. We got this going on, come on in. Have fun. When there is no gospel at all, that concert had opportunity for the Gospel. Many lost souls were there, why not preach from the King James Bible afterwards. And take the death metal out, and replace it with IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. Amen!
Hello, My name is Morgan Bibbee and I am a senior in High School along with Codey, and I would just like to say I respectfully disagree with everything you have to say about this concert. We did this to help raise money to go on a mission trip. We take mission trips every year. And we help spread the word of God on these trips. Just because we worship and praise in a different way does not make what we do wrong. We do all of this for god. We sing and worship with music as our medium. We worked very hard and made sure the bands we chose we’re ones that portrayed a good message. Just because you did not receive the message we tried to portray does not mean that others did not as well. I think you also need to brush up on your biblical teachings. Luke 6:37 states Judge not and ye shall not be judged condemn not and ye shall not be condemned forgive and ye shall be forgiven. Judging us by the way we worship is despicable. You say we a portraying a negative image, but you are the ones upholding the negative stereotype of Christians in today’s society. We are trying to do great things in the name of God. And I want to thank you for your negative comments, because they have strengthened my faith. I can say on behalf of the First Presbyterian Youth Group that we all love God with all of our hearts and do everything in his name. Just because you do not agree does not mean we are doing anything wrong. And I do thank you for purchasing refreshments at the show, anything to help us reach our goal is appreciated
I hope you understand that this event was a fundraiser to help fund for our youth mission trip. We chose these bands very carefully. Though most of the music was hard to understand and very loud. We do know that the music was not valgore. and was no where near to being “anti-Christ” as you had claimed in the letter that you had placed at our church. I am very upset to know that Pastors would make such a ridiculous assumption that a church would allow such music that YOU thought we were having. The fact that you had placed the disrespectful note, rallied, and showed up in anger without even asking our Youth Leader, Church Pastor, or any of the youth members is in my opinion a very good reason to prevent you from seeing these young singers from doing something that they have dreamed of doing all their lives. The reason we let you in is because we had nothing to hide, the music brought in caring people who proudly donated money to help support me and my fellow youth members. I had noticed that one of your friends had purchased a drink and I do appreciate that because every penny counts, we have a very long ways to go to achieve the goal we had set, I do believe God will help us achieve this goal weather there are people who are disrespectful people who would ASSUME that we are doing something that was against The Lord. I do hope that you understand that as a Senior in High School this upsets me that followers of could would have the decency to act in such disrespect. I would deeply appreciate it if you would apologize not for showing up in such manners, for putting a note that was false, but to apologize for not asking what is truly going on and to have donated at least $1 before you left
( though one man purchased a beverage we are deeply appreciative of that)
